Frequently Asked Questions

Everything You Need to Know About EMERGE.

What is EMERGE?
EMERGE is a career-progression platform for Africa's rising generation of professionals.
It brings development, career guidance, professional networks, access to experienced executives and professionals, peer community and career opportunities together in one continuous journey.
EMERGE is designed not simply to help people access work, but to help them build careers that continue to progress over time.
Why does EMERGE exist?
Africa has enormous talent, but the infrastructure around career progression remains fragmented.
Young people may have qualifications and technical capability while lacking access to the broader professional development, networks, guidance, visibility and opportunities that enable sustained progression.
EMERGE was created to strengthen those conditions.
Is EMERGE a training programme?
No.
Development is an important part of EMERGE, but EMERGE is much broader than training.
The experience brings together assessment, live and self-paced development, career clinics, peer relationships, executive and professional access, career opportunities and progression tracking.
Is EMERGE a recruitment platform?
No.
EMERGE creates access to employment and other career opportunities, but finding a job is only one part of the journey.
The wider objective is to help young people build the capabilities, relationships and agency required to continue progressing throughout their careers.
Who is EMERGE for?
EMERGE is designed for ambitious African professionals who are ready to invest intentionally in their career progression.

What is the Leadership Compass?
The Leadership Compass is one of the tools used to help participants understand their starting point.
It provides a baseline view that can support greater self-awareness, development planning and reflection on growth over time.
What kind of development is available?
EMERGE combines live programming, self-paced development, practical career tools, career clinics and other experiences designed to strengthen the wider professional capabilities that contribute to progression.
Topics evolve according to participant needs and changes in the world of work.
Is all EMERGE learning self-paced?
No.
EMERGE combines self-paced digital development with live programming, career clinics, peer engagement, professional and executive access and other experiences.
Does EMERGE provide mentoring?
EMERGE connects participants with peers, experienced professionals and senior executives through different forms of structured engagement.
These relationships are intended to widen access to perspectives, networks and experience that may otherwise be difficult to reach.
Does EMERGE provide jobs?
EMERGE provides access to curated career opportunities, including employment and other forms of progression.
However, participation does not guarantee employment.
Our role is to help participants strengthen their capability, visibility and access to relevant pathways.
What kinds of career outcomes does EMERGE support?
Progression may include:
new or improved employment;
promotion;
increased responsibility;
increased income;
consulting or freelance work;
entrepreneurship;
enterprise growth;
career transitions;
or other meaningful improvements in a person's working life.
Can employers partner with EMERGE?
Yes.
Employers can work with EMERGE both to develop existing employees and to connect with external talent.
Partnerships may include employee development, career and leadership pipeline support, employer engagement, mentoring, career opportunities and talent access.
Can universities, skills programmes or other youth organisations partner with EMERGE?
Yes.
EMERGE can complement existing programmes by providing a broader progression layer around participants, including continued development, networks, mentoring, career support and access to opportunity.
Can funders partner with EMERGE?
Yes.
Funders can support access to EMERGE, strengthen progression across existing portfolios and contribute to the expansion of career-progression infrastructure for young people across Africa.
Who built EMERGE?
EMERGE was developed by TheBoardroom Africa.
TheBoardroom Africa works across the African talent ecosystem supporting organisations with senior leadership talent, leadership advisory and leadership pipeline development.
EMERGE applies insights from that work much earlier in the talent journey.
